I truly believe it is easier to be miserable then happy. Just like with running happiness is something you have to work on. Its so much easier to sit and talk about change but the reality is if you don't get off your rear and make the change then who really cares and whats the point?
But what gets me are the downers. The people that say things for no other reason but to hurt you. I know, you would think we would have gotten over this crap in high school but nope.
Case in point. I told a someone close to me with sheer excitement that, "This time next month I will have ran a half marathon!"
Her response, "Well, its not a big deal its not like you couldn't walk it if you needed to."
First Off. WTH? Ive been training for months! It is a big deal to me! I am not walking jack! And what does it matter to you if I did? Huh?
I get that maybe my teeny booper excitement may have been to much for you wanted to teach me a lesson but why?
Have you been waking up at 6 am on your Saturday off to go drive an hour to join a group run?
Have you ran through trails trying to increase you endurance?
Have you taken ice baths?
No. No you weren't and no you didn't.
Besides hurting me what was the point of that comment? What good would it have done? Was it to belittle me? To make me feel less worthy of an accomplishment?
There have been times in my life where I would have let a comment like that bum me out where I would have sat around and mopped. But not these days. And although I didn't say anything back I didn't feel the need to.
Because its not going to change me. I started running for ME. I run for ME. And I don't care how dumb or sweaty I look when running because I feel damn good while doing it.
And for once, I don't really care what you others may think about my "running" because I have devoted my
time, body, and emotions to be able to run what I can. And in the end, no matter what you say you cant take that away from me.
So thank you running for giving me a stronger backbone and thank you hater for making me realize I'm worth so much more then you will ever know!
